I waited several years for this book to come out, Midnight by Sister Souljah. And let me just say...I was slightly disappointed. SLIGHTLY.
The entire story was just introducing us to Midnight as a person. From birth to age 14. Very interesting story but the shitty part is the way it ends. Its like build build build, OVER.
WTF!?!? Do I have to wait 5 more years before I know what the outcome is? And another thing that pissed me off, the book ONLY came out in hardback and it cost $26. JEZZZUS!! I cant deal...If you are into her first, then you'd probably want to read this.
Otherwise..dont waste ur time.

I disagree with your assessment. I felt the same way when I first finished the book. But think about it, you already know what happens. Midnight goes to jail for killing a man who tried to rape his little sister. It said that he went to jail when he was 14 at the beginning of the book. He gets married in May. He was supposed to turn 15 in July. So that should lead you to deduce that he is sent to jail before he can do any of the things that he planned to do. That aside, I think it was a well-written and well-researched story. I think many people are disappointed because it's not what we wanted or expected. SS was kinda wrong to have promoted this book as a sequel when she knew that the book was not gonna continue the story that she told in the first book. But anyways, let's hope that the wait won't be as long.
Thank you so much for your imput, ma'am. I was about to buy the book on Friday, but saw something else I wanted and decided to go with it. I read Coldest Winter Ever back in 2000, but I just finished re-reading it this afternoon and I am disappointed to know that I did that in prep for the CONTINUATION, but there is none. Hopefully, it won't be another decade before I find out what happens to Winter when she released from prison. Til then....I will go back to my "whodunit" books.
Girl bye...I ordered it from the library. I REFUSE to pay 20 anything for a book. We're in a recession! I'll be sure to hit you up after I read it. Even though I can say I'm quite disappointed it didn't pick up where it left off.
I totally agree! This book was a quite disappoint. I reread the coldest winter ever in preparation for the "sequel" and paid full price for it! It was marketed as a sequel when in fact it was totally about Midnight! the book was decent but I'm mad at the way it ended. She has yet to clear up how Midnight gets locked up and how he got involved in the game! Souljah is totally out of dayum order!
I totally have to say...NO, I LOVED IT! No matter what, I wanted to know who Midnight was, I think I needed to know. Because in The Coldest Winter Ever all you know is that he doesn't like Winter...that wasn't enough for me...I now actually know HIM, and what he stood for. I truly enjoyed it. It definitely was NOT what I expected but I enjoyed reading something other than all SEX, all DRUGS, and all a whole bunch of drama in the hood. This is about a boy who had to become a man and adapt quickly, or die, he became a survivor for his family.
