Sorors - I have been told to warn Sorors of a woman named Kimberly Torres. She claims she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, initiated into Nu Mu Fall03 #3, when if fact they never had a line in Fall03. Headquarters was called and said there is no such woman by the name of Kimberly Torres in our beloved Sorority. She is on Facebook under this name with pictures and everything. She has also said that she will attend Skee-Phi weekend in DC. Beware! Please pass to Sorors and Phrat.

Personally, I am neutral period!!! Kim is one of my closet friends; she is my heart and I am going to support her 100%. As I said I'm playing Devil's Advocate. It's not my concern. We can all agree to disagree. I will say that I don't support a lot of the "witch hunt" mentality that has been surrounding this situation for the past few days and other similar situations. Since I AM grown and have many things to focus on in my life, I'm done with this. My question was asked and opinion stated. Good day.

As the grown woman that you are I'd hope that in the future, you'd be more careful about what u say or type for that matter. As a woman of Christ. I do not rejoice or find pleasure in anothers man's downfall. So despite our sisterly connection, i guess we do have to agree to dissagree. Still I'd beg you to re evaluate your own thoughts feelings and actions in the matter, and encourage others to do the same.
It really saddens me to see sorors behave in such a vile way. I understand that our organization is somthing that we hold dear. However, there is a way to defend it with tact. From there I'd like to address the women who decided to go about this "ousting" in such a public manner. You have hurt a lot more than kim in all of this and should have had the wisdom to address this privately with her.

I have a sincere question for you. Ms. Torres was VERY public in her proclamations of being an AKA, so why should the denunciation of her AKA status be done in a private manner? I agree with you, it is extremely unfortunate and unnecessary that she has been threatened with violence and bodily harm but I do not see the problem with sorors actively informing other sorors that Ms. Torres has been decieving us for years.
That said, I am still awaiting a response from a soror who knows her, or even Ms. Torres herself to explain this whole matter (i.e. I know there can be lots of ambiguities with underground or ghost lines-since she is clearly not national).
Let me make this abundantly clear.
Kimberly Torres regardless of how "cool" you are with her, is NOT a member of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA.
For those of you who are defending her, this woman LIED to hundreds of people about her status as a member of Nu Mu chapter in NYC. She lied to people telling them that she was illegally pledged by members of that chapter, AND to add insult to injury, she was attempting to make money off my sorority's name by hosting a party and passing herself off as a member of the sorority.
She has already proven to be a LIAR. She is a liability to my organization because she is hosting events in the name of my sorority and she has no right to.

She was a friend of mine on facebook and she use to put biblical quotes on there and make biblical references about God. How could someone feel sooo "Christian" but held such a big lie over her heart? It does not make any sense to me.
What I also don't understand that when members of AKA confronted her in the forms of emails and phone calls, she ignored them BUT when a Alpha man called her, she spills her guts to him on the situation. What does that tell you!?!?!?!?

I have been a member of this great sorority for 15 years. I totally understand why she wanted so bad to be a part of it. However, do it the right way! Like my grandmother did...like my mother did. Like I did.

One quick question. Are any of you born again believers of Jesus Christ?
I'm sure many of us are born again Christians. I am and I aware that the Bible teaches us to stay away from "false prophets" i.e. LIARS. The Bible also teaches that everyone who yells, "Lord, Lord" is not going to Heaven. If Torres can methodically live a lie to her so-called "friends" then how can you believe her "sob lie"...I mean, "sob story"?
It's simple, you either pledged or not. i.e. You're either pregnant or not...you're either a Christian or not. You can't straggle the fence. If she's a Christian, then she needs to come clean about who she is and stop professing a lie.
And for those of you who are supporting the lie, shame on you for knowing the lie and hiding it from your true sisterhood.
I am in no way condoning bodily harm or physical threats. Everyone should be adults and sophicated women about the matter. Acknowledgment of the wrong and fixing the wrong is needed now.

Yes lying is wrong, the Bible says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire. I'm not an AKA. I'm a Delta but just as well I don't understand the 100% supporter's few at all. IF you're truly a friend to her, the right thing would've been for you to advise your girl that regardless of what the situation was, perp'n is a bad idea. At this point, given as much info as AKA has on their site about how to go about membership a middle school kid could tell you that you wouldn't be pledged for weeks to become a member. IF she felt so entitiled to those letters, why not go to nationals and state her case. I'm all for forgiveness but I'm also for accountability. hazing actually was NOT around from day one of these organizations...it started happening around the time of the war when an influx of greeks went to defend the country and saw that is how the armed forces had initiations and hazing sessions which was then incorporated into taht which we call greek life today.

To the person who referenced hazing: You might have valid points if this situation were indeed about hazing. However, this is about perpetrating a lie. In logic, what you are doing is classified as a "red herring," and it is a fallacious argument.
Also... Yes, I'm Greek, and yes, I pledged. However, you might want to research (if you care about being accurate) and realize that pledging is not synonymous with violence. I do not agree with ANY threats of violence or anything, but I do believe that people have the right to know that they have been deceived for many years.
To answer the question, Do i forgive? Of course i do. sincere in her regret of misrepresenting her affilitation with an org, then yes. My forgiveness has nothing to do with my understanding of actions and consequences. While I feel her and her being taken advantage of by women, it has nothing to do with expecting people who have done wrong to pay for their actions. One has nothing to do with the other.
Now did I pledge? Yep, and I have paperwork to prove my membership. Not only did I EARN the right to wear my letters, but I remain Active and Financial. I've held every position in the chapter from President down to Custodian, made quite a few Deltas, been a voting delegate, on various committees, and recognized locally, regionally, & nationally. If you knew my real name a simple google search would say enough!!!

Your girl Kim could've done something about her tragic situation years ago. instead she continued to PERP her status as an actual member of AKA for YEARS!!! Hazing isn't violence?! Are you sure? Are you sure its not illegal in all fifty states? People are being arrested and locked behind bars because of it. Yes, it is classified as violence, regardless if someone allowed others to haze them.

If you are stating that you are the master of YOUR fate, then what position does JESUS hold over your life? I was involved in making renegades or ghosts and could clearly see the problems with it. When the situation came up again, as a DP, I refused to do it.

As a member of a greek org..I've learned that there are usually two types of members, PEOPLE WHO WORSHIP THERE LETTERS and let them run their dialy life, and people who don't. I've seen some people say and do some crazy things in the name of their organization. crazy un-Christian things..EVERYONE is not like that. I don't think all members of fraternities and sororities are idol worshipers, or anti-Christian..I think some people are and are pre-destined to act like that, they prob. worship many other things in their life. I think its ashame that she was living a life of deception and lies. She never told people about her "situation", instead she just lied. She claimed AKA for 5yrs instead of working hard to become an actual member. However, it's even sadder that she truly believes she is an official member. She has lied to people from all over thus gaining friends, connects, and respect. Apparently AKA is full filling a void in her life. We need to pray that she gets delivered from this life of deception and lies and seek God.
First, I not once condoned violence against your friend. That would be completely wrong and unsisterly. I do believe that in lying about her affiliation she should suffer whatever consequences come along with that. Even if it means Enternal Banishment from the org.
GOD is the head of my life. That said, we all have been given free will. So as individuals, YOU CHOOSE to do wrong.
Again, I empathize with what your friend went thru but she added insult to injury by her own actions. Why not go to Nationals? Why not tell an advisor? Why not seek legal action? Since you know sooo much about my org than you know our policy states that if you allow yourself to be hazed fully know what hazing is and that it is illegal than you are accountable as well. Also, given as much info on the AKA site as there is about membership, wow could one submit to such a process. It doesn't make sense.
Again what happened to her is a completely separate issue than what she CHOOSE to do afterwards. She made a choice to PERP for YEARS!!! it's just now catching up with her.
Now if you were to take her being your friend out of the equation, there was simply some random woman out there claiming to be an AKA, using it's name to profit, gotten you give her money and support her functions, network, and prosper as a whole without as much as a membership card, having never paid any dues, or done any work to better the AKA community as a whole can you honestly say you'd be okay with that after everything you went thru to do the same?
I wish your friend well and hope there is some resolution to this issue.
